Birdseye View

I hear a bird cawing
as it flies overhead
I sit on my balcony
Listening to the traffic
Musing at the morning light
hitting the autumn trees
But for a moment
I am transported—away
To a time that passed
When I sat next to a fire
Coffee in hand
The absolute silence of a desert canyon rim
The beautiful solitude
And comforting warmth of the fire
Overhead flew a similar bird
To visit me sitting in the morning light
I could hear the faint whisper
Of the breeze in its wings
I long for the freedom of that bird
The bird’s eye view
But even from below
Looking up
I am intoxicated
By the call of the bird
The blue skies above
The peace in my heart
