I Learn to Fly

A dance down the mountain
Fast footwork
Step after step
My foot finds the perfect landing
My arms extend
To assist in balance
My eyes search ahead
Running fast down the trail
With reckless abandon
Chasing the final rays
Of the golden sunset
A laugh bubbles up
From my stomach
To my throat
I hit an uplift
leap off the back side
One foot reaching forward
One kicking back
Arms out like the wings of a bird
For that fleeting moment
I am flying
